Research Themes

Providing cognitive assistance through smart home to ensure the independence of people with cognitive impairments . That assistance is intended to provide information missed by the inhabitants to perform their activities of daily living and to organize their schedule. Sensors in the smart home gather the current activity performed by the inhabitant. Depending on the needs determined by the smart home, environmental cues are provided through tangible interfaces and simple computer interfaces. Outside, the inhabitant carries a smartphone with specific applications designed for his needs and cognitive abilities. These devices are developed according to user-centered approach involving persons with schizophrenia, head injury, mental retardation, and dementia, as well as medical staff. Evaluation of these assistive devices takes place in natural setting.
