Brain and Pain-Assessment Laboratory

  • Description
    • This laboratory brings together neurostimulation, neuroimaging, and various other types of equipment needed for psychophysical and clinical assessments to study the central nervous system under normal and pathological conditions. The objective is to better understand how the brain functions as well as to gain insight into brain-plasticity phenomena in young and old alike, which can be beneficial (e.g., stroke recovery) or harmful (e.g., chronic pain).
  • Expertise
    •
      • Transcranial stimulation devices (transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct-current stimulation)
      • Peripheral neurostimulation devices
      • Near-infrared spectroscope
      • Multichannel electromyogram acquisition system with amplifiers
      • Devices used for experimental pain paradigms (cold-water immersion test, thermode)
      • Clinical tests (e.g., box-and-block test, force gauge, etc.)
  • Researchers
    • Guillaume Léonard, Marie-Hélène Milot, and Patrick Boissy
